Twins first day of preschool!

Fall is sure in the air today in the PNW, rain falling on the windows, leaves changing, pumpkin spice lattes at Starbucks and BACK TO SCHOOL!

Believe it or not my youngest are old enough for preschool already! Just a couple hours twice a week, perfect amount of time for them to make some new friends, gain some new skills and have lots of fun. Ruby usually has a easy time with fitting in to any situation but Larkin has been a little more shy. Today was no exception. However since her new teacher is also a friend of mine it helped out a lot and although she was a little shy at first Teacher Tasha made her feel right at home in no time!

I sewed some little book bags and dresses (from my favorite heather ross van fabrics, hello betty hounds tooth for the top and Oliver and S ice cream dress pattern) for them to wear for the first day of school so they looked extra cute ;-) Tomorrow the big girls start school. I have a 5th and 3rd grader now! Amazing how fast time goes by once you become a parent. While I am looking forward to a little more time to work on business and keep up on house work, help at the school and crafts it is a strange feeling to not have any “babies” for the first time in 11 years!

I have a lot of catching up on pictures from the summer and I will be working on some new things soon. Speaking of new.. I also finally made a business page on facebook! Check it out HERE. New Projects

Hey there! I am still alive ;-) wow what a busy busy summer it has been! Having 4 little ones at home and my photography business have been keeping me hopping! I have managed however to spend a little time working on a couple of sewing projects. My oldest is almost eleven and decided she wanted to decorate a couple of T-shirts for back to school so she picked out some favorite fabrics and decorated her shirts.

I also used some Liberty Arts Fabrics from Sheree’s Alchemy to make a really cute Bo Peep dress from Anna Maria Horner’s Seams to me book.

Hope my sewing buddies have been doing great too! I have made a another blog for my photography if you want to sneak a peek at what I have been up to check it out ;-) Love to everyone

a day at the beach

Last month our family took a day to drive down to long beach Washington with some of our closest friends. It was so much fun to have a day to relax and play with the kids. I am glad I finally took a few minutes to sit down and upload some of my own pictures from the last few months… ok now back to wedding edits ;-) Be sure to check out Liz’s Blog. Meeting Heather Ross

Last Friday after a totally stressful crazy week (my 8 year old is going through some bad allergic reactions, spending lots of time in Dr’s offices and even a ER visit) I almost wasn’t able to make to meet Heather Ross. I am so glad Liz told me about the event and invited me to go with her because being so busy I have seriously neglected my blog reading and didn’t even know Heather was giving a free lecture! So my daughter Iris (who is a huge Heather Ross fan) and cousin Cory (artist,writer,amazing baker,wonderful life long friend, lover of chickens ;-) took a little trip across the river.

If you know me (at least in a crafty sense) you know that I am a HUGE Heather Ross fan. I love everything about her work. In fact the main reason I decided to learn to sew in the first place was because I saw her goldfish fabric ;-) Before that I had just seen some of the more traditional quilting fabrics and wasn’t that inspired. Little did I know the world of awesome designers and bold brilliant fabrics awaiting me ;-)

Heather was everything I had imagined she would be. Totally fun to listen to speak and inspiring, creative, funny. We loved hearing about her design process and her general message about doing what you love in your art. I am looking forward to seeing some of her new projects in the future… and I seriously hope one of these days to be able to take a workshop from her (I need a not wedding season workshop pleeeasssse)

After the lecture we went to dinner at Pf Chang’s (haven’t been there in a long time I was overdue for some lettuce wraps) It was a great night and a much needed break

ps see those little mermaid hexies… I am using the scraps from Iris’s quilt to make a matching pillow for her room ;-)

New dress for my bug & saying goodbye

This week has not been great… My Grandpa passed away. Although he was old (almost 95) It is still sad to see him go. Just 4 1/2 months ago my Granny died so as sad as it is for me it’s even more so for my mom to have lost both of her parents in such a short time. On Sunday it would have been my grandparents 74th Wedding Anniversary! Isn’t that amazing.

Iris also lost her sweet Alice the guinea pig.. She died very very suddenly, fine one moment and then she said started breathing really fast and Iris screamed by the time I saw her she had died. I am not sure at all what happened. She was perfectly healthy happy and had no prior signs of anything wrong.

One more sad thing and then a cute dress I swear!

My Stella bee is ALLERGIC TO BEES! A trip to the urgent care and 3 prescriptions later she’s doing much better!

Since the week has been so sad/stressful I decided I needed a bit of a break to make something for my Iris to cheer her up. I made a simple shirred dress and added some cute cap sleeves. It was so much fun to use up a little of my Mendocino and it looks soo cute on her. Also isnt that desk awesome ;-) I will have to use it for a picture somewhere other than in my teeny yard but we love it!

Taking a small break from Wedding editing to share some fun. A couple of weeks ago we took the girls to The Pumpkin Patch to pick some berries. It was lots of fun! Raspberries, Blueberries and even a few Strawberries. I made a cobbler from the raspberries and we just munched on the others. I love summertime

I am playing a little catch up on some of my personal photos in between working on wedding edits this morning. My friend Terri made some adorable quilts for the twins third birthday! I am amazed at how much sewing Terri is able to do and especially how fast she can make such awesome things! Terri is always just a thoughtful sweet friend. I am sad to see her moving but excited for the great things coming her way! Her little girl Sophie and the twins have lots of fun playing together too! The girls clearly loved the quilts and the gnomes are just perfect along with her using the twins favorite colors (green for larkin red for ruby) the quilts are getting a lot of love in our house!

I have lots more fun stuff to share but need to get back to “work” July’s a busy busy wedding month this year ;-) Take care guys and enjoy the sunshine!

I am seriously one blessed girl! I have met the sweetest people online and one of my very favorite is my friend Kirsten I was soo super lucky to get her for my pillow swap partner this round. I almost cried when I opened my box… I saw the most wonderful pillows.. that’s right TWO pillows!

not just that but she also had fabric printed for me! Seriously can you say generous amazing wonderful awesome! I didn’t even get a picture of all of the awesomeness that I was sent but seriously honey you MADE my MONTH! You always know what I love and I am itching to get some of these lovely fabrics into some projects very soon!

AND she made bean bags that the girls just LOOOOVE!

Man… these are some cute kids… and I am not just saying that because we’re related ;-) I was able to spend some time Saturday with my cousin and his family who came down for the weekend. Hoping to snag a few pictures of the kids in their wedding outfits we met up and sadly only were able to be out for a short time before being attacked by swarms of mosquitos! BUT I was able to get some fun shots and best of all we all got together for a bbq at my uncles and got to hang out anyway ;-) Hopefully we will be able to get our families together again real soon!

I have been a busy busy girl the last few weeks. At least one wedding a week, girls home from school for the summer (I swear I have been taking pictures of them and once I get caught up I will share some of that fun stuff as well) But what I have been doing a LOT of is editing ;-) I think something like 600 yesterday alone! Finished up Lindsey and Alex’s Wedding,working on a couple other weddings and other shoots. Fun times… my girls have been busy painting, playing in the sandbox, having tea parties, playing dress up. I have been doing a bulk of my edits early morning and evenings so we have also been able to go swimming, play at the park, go to the library and have a lot of summer fun with my girls. I have been a busy busy girl… lots and lots of work on editing recent shoots, Fathers day, the twins birthday, the last day of school for my 2 older daughters. I now have a 3rd and 5th grader.. wow how did that happen so fast. I am so super proud… trying not to brag (but I have to a little bit) the report cards were phenomenal! Not that they aren’t usually good but watching as they get older and continue to produce excellent work and treat others well and bring home wonderful creative stories and art projects I am just feeling extra proud of my daughters ;-)

Dresses for the twins

Tomorrow is the twins 3rd Birthday I seriously cannot believe how fast the last 3 years have flown by. I will get some fun pictures to share of their life (and maybe even a couple pregnant bellies) but today I wanted to share some dresses I sewed for them last week.

I have made these dresses for the twins birthday out of my favorite Sandi Henderson Pattern using some Pop Garden fabric by Heather Bailey that I have been saving for something extra special.

I had a great time this afternoon taking surprise pictures for their daddy of one of my great friends three kiddos. Today was the last day of second grade for big brother, it’s amazing how fast time goes by for us parents.It has been way too long since I have spent time time with them because the kids have grown a ton! We must mend that this summer! Happy Birthday Little Bee

Last Friday (the 28th of may) was my daughter Stella’s 8th Birthday. She had her first slumber party with 17 girls! “only” 14 stayed overnight ;-) I was so impressed with how well behaved and sweet all the kids were. It was a little loud but I have to say my kids have some good friends

I finished her fairytale quilt.

ended up just quilting wide lines.. yeah 8 inch lines. I need a new machine.. mine cannot handle a twin size quilt very well at all. it was so stressful breaking needles having the machine slide all over trying to hold both rolled up sides guide the machine and keep it from sliding all over so I just did the wide lines. Its cute I would have liked to do something a little cooler but she LOVES her quilt and I am ok with it not being perfect because she loves it so much

I have been busy working on some sewing projects! For the longest time I have been telling my friend Liz that I NEEEEDED to learn to embroider so I could embroider a camera on a bag or something, not just a camera.. but MY camera. SOO for part of my birthday present (I know.. I really need to post a pic of my goodies because I got some GOODIES I tell ya for my birthday a couple weeks ago.. but I have been super busy) she got me this so I could learn and she designed THIS so I could make my very own! I have been so intimidated by embroidery but not any more.. its simple.. if you haven’t tried it, just do it! Sooo easy and fun fun fun! Since learning my camera I have also tried this

I also purchased the Ice Cream Dress pattern and have been playing around.. next week is Stella’s 8th Birthday!

The first dress I made using Heather Ross’s West hill frogs with some Heather Bailey freshcut. Then I decided to try it as just a top.. using Kona charcoal and Anna Maria Horner’s little folks. I Have to say I am pretty excited about making some more of the tops for summer. Iris is almost 11 and since the Oliver and S pattern only goes up to a little girls size 12 I had to try and enlarge the pattern a little… It was super simple.. Now I am debating if I can make it big enough for ME! I think I probably could.. (used Kona charcoal again and Heather Ross Far Far away purple unicorns)

Next week Stella is having a slumber party so I am testing out a breakfast for a bunch of little girls ;-) Liz again helped me out by sharing this great recipe from (my hero) Pioneer Woman! Cinnamon Baked French Toast. I love that she cooks just like me without measuring cups.. It turned out suuuper good I think it’s a winner for sure!

WELL… Life the last couple weeks has been interesting to say the least. Our whole family came down with this nasty nasty stomach flu. The body ache, headache throwing up a million times.. shoot me now flu ;-)

Eventually everyone got better and I am happy to say we are back to “normal”

I have been spending a little time in between cleaning and sanitizing the whole house and trying to catch up on the things I didn’t get done while everyone was sick sewing.

Here is little dress I made for a friend of mines daughter. I used the Petal Knot Dress pattern along with some pretty Heather Bailey fabrics.

and I have been working on Stella’s fairytale birthday quilt. Its simple and cute I think she loves it already. I have caught her standing in the sewing room looking at the blocks and smiling so that is a good sign ;-)

Sunday we decided to attempt to leave the house and enjoy the sunshine!

I haven’t been able to spend much time at the computer lately. Spring break, home projects..etc etc etc. Just wanted to check in and share some of what we have been up to.

Its all 4 of my ladies together!

This will be Stella’s 8th Birthday gift. Twin size fairytale quilt. Made from mostly Japanese prints (I will be mixing some Heather Ross in as well) Just 8 inch blocks really simple but the fabrics are busy so I think it will be fun. I am still so new at this whole “quilting” thing so I have a LOT of learn and need practice. I also joined the Portland Modern Quilters Guild… I was lucky enough to have some friends (Heather, Terri, Kerri) invite me to join them at a sewing night at Modern Domestic! It was SO much fun and now I am thinking things like.. “seriously Sarah you have made like ONE full sized quilt ever (and several minis) how does that make you a quilter???” But I am trying to ignore the voice telling me I’m not cool enough to hang out with all of these uber talented ladies but I am hoping my skills will improve and I will be able to carve out more creative time as well as make some more time to hang out with girlfriends and work on other sewing projects!

My week

I have embarked on journey.. organizing my house. My house is never “dirty” just feels cluttered and cramped with mostly kids stuff ;-) Getting busy and just sticking things wherever they fit for way too long I suppose. The two older girls and two younger girls share rooms so as I’m sure you can imagine closest space is an issue ;-) I have been digging into boxes and boxes of clothes (I have to switch out the seasons and so I am switching over to spring packing away winter) but this time I am being much more picky with the things I decide to save. The rooms have been switched, carpets cleaned dressers and closets gone through and many many toys have been sent off to the goodwill

Can you have too many books? It’s painful for me to get rid of them for some reason. We currently have around 1,000 children’s books.. this is a guess but I am sure its at LEAST that many! I let go of non favorites that were damaged in any way but still there are a LOT of books. I am also going though things in my sewing/craft room.. organizing fabric on shelving and realizing I have to get working on some projects or there is no good excuse for having so much fabric ;-)

THIS will be a summer dress for me. I am not sure what style I am going for but I cant wait to get started. I cant wait to have my house make sense and be able to find things when I am looking for them. Here is a very short list of the MANY sewing projects I have coming up

1. Stella’s Birthday Quilt- I actually decided on a pattern for it last night. I have lots of Japanese fairy tale charm squares and that is what she is asking for the theme so I have been trying to figure out how to make it not look too busy but still interesting and I telling myself to USE WHAT I HAVE and not buy anything new. I had wanted to do solids around the squares but I actually have almost none and then I got to looking around at what I do have and noticed a lovely stack of Minny Muu

I think it is small enough scale to not look too crazy busy but also it’s adorable and interesting too right??? So I need to get working on this soon (her bday is May 28th)

2. A thank you gift for my friend. She met us at Disneyland and took some awesome family photos! This one has got to be one of my favorites. It just shows how crazy the trip was ;-) hehe. and yeah I haven’t finished even looking at our trip pictures! I know I’m crazy.

3. window coverings for both of the girls rooms.. I am thinking some AMH voile.. possibly some of my HR unicorns???? so many ideas so little time.

4. oh and speaking of Anna Marie Horner. I have about a million quilts to work on.. but I really need to get started on my Bohemian quilt. Luckily I have some friends helping me figure out what to do for it and I am getting close to ready to start. I don’t have EVERY print but plenty to show a variety. Of course there is also a Flea Market Fancy quilt to make and some Heather Ross quilts, Prints charming.. for only ever making a couple quilts in my whole life I sure like to think I will be making a lot more ;-)

5. Easter dresses for the girls… or maybe I will just have them wear some of the awesome Liberty dresses we got at target ;-)

ok seriously I need to get back to work and off the computer… oh one more thing. I got to meet Kate, a beautiful new baby girl my friend Natasha brought into the world 12 days ago! Tasha and I were pregnant at the same time. Her with her son Isaac and me with the twins. Kate is sooo sweet it makes me miss having a baby girl ;-)

For pretty much all of my post high school life I have been living in fast forward. At least looking back that’s what it feels like. Lately its been catching up. Just a combination of a million little things along with a couple big things and I am feeling a little overwhelmed lately.

Lucky for me I am pretty good at multi tasking and taking on a lot, but I am at the point now where I just feel like I need to find a way to slow down a bit. Like I am trying to pay attention to so many things all at once and do so many different things and it’s hard to keep up.

Lately the twins have been really a challenge. Ok well really having 4 kids, trying to be everything they all need at the same time just trying to balance it all out has been crazy lately. I think I have figured out what will help me.. I need to get organized better. I have always been sort of a… free spirit I guess you could say. It’s always worked out just fine, I don’t want to lose that but at the same time I do think that just getting my “stuff” figured out would make our lives less chaotic and leave more time for fun.

I am in the middle of rearranging, purging, organizing my house. It feels good. I think making our surroundings uncluttered. I have been spending more time at the gym again too and looking for some new recipes, trying to not over plan our life and let us all just recuperate.

SO I haven’t been online much needless to say, or uploading a lot of pictures.. actually I think I have close to a week just sitting my camera! But I am still taking them at least right ;-) I am powering though getting the house done and then.. mommy will need a break ;-) ok i totally need one already but once I start something it’s hard for me to stop

The twins sported the dresses I made them in front of small world.. their favorite ride.. well it was either small world, tea cups, dumbo or pirates

Grandma Cheryl was visiting her sister Kathy who lives in Corona they came to meet us and play.

Grandma kept the little ones so Daddy, Iris and I could ride thunder mountain

It was a pretty relaxing day…lots of help and lots of fun

Disneyland: Day ONE

First off thank you so much for the kind comments about my Granny’s passing. It means a lot to me to read. We had a family trip to Disneyland planned for a long time and while it was hard to walk away from feeling so sad to going to “the happiest place on earth” I think it was probably good timing not just for us but also for my Mom and brother who met us there for part of the time. Pictures from the week are all on the computer now… all 2,000 something pictures! I am actually amazed we were able to take so many with the twins who were pretty crazy most of the time.. and being in a busy place..etc. I wish we had gotten some more and there were some things we just totally didn’t get to snap pictures of but we have a LOT of memories for the girls. Yet almost NO video.. That bums me out but what can I do now. Here’s a little taste of day one. I will try not to overload everyone with my Disneyland pictures and just tell a little story of each day

Up SUPER early (3:45am) to catch our flight. The twins have never been on a plane and can I just say.. I don’t think they will be again any time soon! I am not sure what the deal was… combo of their being two of them who wanted to freak out and have me hold them, didn’t want to sit still.. or the fact that Larkin WONT PEE IN PUBLIC. Seriously I need any ideas anyone has about this one. She wouldn’t go before we left the house (she went before bed the night before) and it took until about 2:30pm the next day for her to go finally. She was crying and crazy and just wouldn’t do it. I took her to a million bathrooms, heck I offered to give her a diaper even! Once she went she was a different kid!

We ended up going back to the hotel pretty early that night, one to many melt downs and we got up SUPER early so we wanted to be rested to get there at opening the next day ;-) Stay tuned.

saying goodbye

My sweet Granny passed away this Thursday. She would have turned 90 on March 22nd. While she did have a long full life it’s still hard to imagine not hearing her soft southern accent telling me that she has the prettiest, sweetest great grandbabies any granny could hope for. Or going over to my parents house (where her and my Papaw have lived) and seeing them sitting in the living room listening to old records.

For my entire life I have never lived more than a few miles from my Granny and Papaw. My Mom has never gone more than a day or so without talking to her in her entire life. When I was little in California we all lived on the same dirt road surrounded by Orange and Olive orchards. I remember walking barefoot to her house from mine and spending countless hours playing in my Grandparents yard. When my parents decided to move up to Washington my grandparents quickly followed. They lived on their own for a few years but in 1995 our family bought a much bigger old farm house to share so Mom could help as they grew older and unable to do things on their own. I feel very blessed that my daughters were all able to meet and get to know their great grandparents. Papaw is now 94 and has had many strokes and is now confused and no longer himself. Gran had a stroke last year that scared us all but was able to regain much of her speech for the last several months of her life.

I will need to collect some pictures of her from when I was little. Some of my favorite memories of her are spending the night, waking up in the middle of the night going to the kitchen in her cool old farm house where she made me warm milk and toast ;-) feeding the chickens, helping her pack my Papaws lunch in his metal lunch box, listening to the Jackson 5 and Nat King Cole on the record player. Her teaching me how to finger crochet, make paper dolls, and draw elephants ;-)

I knew this was coming but it still feels like it happened fast. She had been doing alright but caught prenumonia and mrsa virus from a recent hospital visit and her old body just wasn’t able to fight it. We were able to talk to her and say our goodbyes and that is something I will cherish those last “I love you’s” as she fell peacefully asleep surrounded by love.

Lately the days have been flying by.. between dr visits, trips to the gym, planning for vacations, selling girl scout cookies with the big girls, homework, house work, more house work…and mostly a couple of girls who have been giving their mother a very hard time lately by not napping, not just not napping but basically fighting and crying for several hours a day (because they wont nap of course) Mama hasn’t been able to do a whole lot of creative lately. But on Friday during the time I was standing outside the twins bedroom putting them back in bed over and over again I hopped on into the craft room and snapped a couple photos.. a little something to make me feel good ;-)

A awesome place that started out as somewhere people would post photos of fabric they wanted to trade.. tell what they are ISO for sewing projects hoping they would find someone who had just what they had been looking for but couldnt find at a LQS or online reasonably priced.

Swapping fabrics itself has proven to be super cool.... but the real thing that I have gained has been this awesome community of creative, inspiring, uplifting, generous many of whom have become great friends. Through fabric, mini quilt and pillow swaps I have really enjoyed trying new things sharing what I know and what I have with this great community!

When they were babies we did this a lot…actually more than the regular tub. I love kitchen sink bath’s so much easier than bending over the bathtub and way more fun to them too for some reason.

somehow they can both still squish into the sink at 2 years 7 months old ;-)

when they are so cute and silly it totally makes up for the week of not napping and being rotten all day ;-) Now I really need to get more pictures of the rest of my children, I tend to take a majority of pictures during the earlier part of the day while the older girls are at school then it’s homework, dinner, showers pass out ;-)

That’s my girl Iris. And this was basically the only picture I took all day today. I had all of these intentions, ideas.. plans to be creative… a couple of 2 year olds had other plans… I spent over 2 hours putting them back in bed over and over before just giving up on any kind of nap from them… AGAIN. Not napping wouldn’t be so bad if they didn’t spend the rest of the day screaming, fighting, pulling hair, SITTING on each other, destroying…REALLY NEEDING A NAP! Now I feel like I spent most of the day, trying over and over to make them just lay there for a little bit. Putting them in time out, making them say sorry to sissy..scolding… not so fun… I hope they don’t need therapy later on in life from childhood memories of their mom threatening to sell them to the circus ;-)

This afternoon my husband and I decided to just try out taking the railing off the twins cribs (they are that style that turns into toddler beds) At 2 1/2 they are big enough for sure to be in toddler beds but somehow the idea of being able to confine them has been hard to let go of ;-) But now that they are potty trained its important for them to be able to get up and go to the bathroom. So this afternoon I tried out nap time.

for the next hour and a half they got out of bed about 3 times each.. to use the potty.. and a couple times just because they could.. finally it was quiet

1.05.10 Stella’s Eyes

Now that Stella is getting older I have (and so has her teacher) noticed that she has a hard time following lines in books at school. Another thing I noticed was sometimes, especially when shes really tired or looking up and over to the left her eye moves slower.. almost crossing a little. Today the eye dr said she needs surgery for Strabismus. The Dr didnt talk about any other alternatives and in my opinion was really cold.. luckily we have 2 options for medical now and after I came home and looked around online and talked to a few people who have had experience with it I am taking her to see another Dr. This one specializes in children and i’m not saying she won’t need surgery but I am hoping to at least feel more educated and comfortable before taking that step…. kind of scary none of my kids have had any kind of procedure done or been in the hospital since they were born. Considering that I guess we’re pretty blessed. Still I am worrying about my little Stella

The big girls went back to school today. It was kind of hard for me. I love having them all home every day. We had a good break.. went to a few movies, drove up to Seattle, saw Zoo lights, decorated, celebrated, baked, read books, played outside (even when it was way too cold for my taste) so it was a good winter break.

Today we took the twins to visit Portland’s Children’s museum. Somewhere we haven’t been for awhile although I used to take the older girls there quite often… needless to say we ended up buying a year membership because they loved it so much! Since it was in the same parking lot we took a little trip to the Zoo as well and enjoyed visiting some of our favorite animal friends. I love weekends. It’s so much more fun to have another set of hands to hold when Daddy is home. Sometimes doing a whole lot is hard with twins at this age. I am hoping as they get older it will become more and more fun.

We had a quick lunch and then started off on our way to find the elephants and monkeys. But first Larkin asked to see the penguins. They were kind of hiding out in the back corner and she wasn’t able to see them very good today.. as we walked away she slowed down and plopped down on the curb. I asked her what was wrong. She just sat there. So Ruby walked over and sat down.. Larkin told her she was sad the penguins were hiding.. so sissy gave her a big cuddle and that seemed to perk her back up making her excited to move on to the favorite orangutan. This gal’s been spending her days up at the window talking to kids since I can remember. Its so sweet but a little sad. Luckily the new enclosure they are building for the “red apes” is much bigger so I am hoping that she will have a little more to do. She loves checking everyone out. you put your hand up she copies you. She loves the kids toys and always makes eye contact with us.. and I want to take her home ;-)

It started snowing for the first time this year today. My kids are really excited! I have a bad head cold and keep eyeing the blanket on the couch with the new harry potter movie myself ;-)

I also wanted to share some pillows I made for my aunt and cousin with their little pooches on them.

I am in love with this picture I took yesterday of Larkin.

I actually wasn’t even really taking a picture of her on purpose just testing my white balance at the aquarium (there is some funky lighting at places like that) but something about it speaks me me.. if I look at it critically I could come up with a million things wrong with it… it was dark so the pictures pretty noisey, I don’t usually edit the colors so much… but the things right with it outweigh the wrong for me.. her pretty eyelashes and crazy hair.. the way the background colors look.. her expression…

That is one of my goals for this year as my photography evolves. Not to be so hard on every shot I take. Learn to look at it for things I love not for things I need to do better every time I look. I guess you could say I will be going with my gut more.

What a great day we had today.. Uncle Cory came over and we baked from about 10am until 5pm or so.. We made delicious snicker doodles, gingersnaps, oatmeal craisin almond white chocolate cookies and of course the best best best sugar cookies ever.. the kind that stays soft and pretty (i’ll post the recipe if anyone would like it)

It’s so fun watching the twins also get into baking this year!

Cookie day was a great day! Really gets me in the spirit for family fun and watching the girls have fun and seeing Iris and Stella enjoy reading and measuring the recipes with Cory was a great memory in the making. We are so blessed with such loving friends and family

Its been a fun fun week playing the color game. Today is Black and or White.. I just went with things that were mostly black and white or white and I also edited them all black and white just because i’ve missed black and white. Tomorrow is cookie day, I have 3 huge batches of the best sugar cookies on earth all chilling in the fridge.. Cory is bringing over a couple other types it should make for 12 hours or so of fun ;-)

I have been thinking about restarting my 365 photos I have attempted (a few years ago) to do the 365 self portraits but didnt get very far.. (I enjoy taking pictures of things around me a lot more than me) so 1.01.10 I am starting a 365 project of just whatever I think my favorite picture of that day is.. I usually take at least a few pictures a day but I thought it would be nice to really commit to it.. I was thinking of doing one shot of me a week for an album because I do like the concept of watching how you change in a year and I think it would be fun to look back on for my girls and myself, plus I am turning 30 this year so that should be exciting to watch ;-) I have been throwing around ideas in my head also about putting together some other photo projects for my blog and hope to get some friends to join in too.. maybe a word, time of day, body part.. im not sure, just something fun to play around with in the winter months.

Brown is one of my favorite colors. Its warm and comforting to me.. “earthy” ;-) I had a lot of ideas.. one was going to be pictures of all of our brown eyes but after trying for the last 2.5 hours (and having a incredibly crazy morning with them) the twins finally fell asleep for a nap and the big girls wont be home for a bit from school. I wanted to get this done while I had a brief moment of peace.

We decided last minute to take the girls to zoo lights tonight.. It was fun.. like it has been the last oh.. 9 years we’ve gone ;-) Last year we went on a VERY cold icy night
